Five infants got sick with measles right after the birth as ZAXID.NET reported citing Deputy Head of Lviv City Children Hospital Roman Gerega.
It is known that the children became ill in a few days after the birth. They immediately had the rash and fever; later they had the complication in the form of pneumonia.
The mothers of the children became infected with measles before the childbirth but the signs of the disease appeared after the birth. According to Gerega, one of the mothers got measles in two days after the birth of her child and another one in five days.
There are three boys among the infected children, including twins. It is unknown how mothers became ill. The twins were hospitalized on January 19, the third boy was taken to the hospital on January 20. They began to receive the antibiotics immediately.
The mothers of the children were vaccinated against measles. They gave birth in the districts and nobody knew about their illness.
Three infants stay in Lviv City Children Hospital, in separate boxes with separate entries. Two other children were discharged; they get better and stay at homes.
As we reported Ukraine’s Health Ministry will prepare documents for summoning special commission to consider the need to declare measles epidemic in Ukraine.
Earlier, the outbreak of measles was spotted among the personnel of the National Guard of Ukraine, assigned to Vinnytsia military unit. The first case of the sickness of measles was spotted before the New Year and now, the number of the diseased increased up to more than a few dozens. The National Guard does not have a specialized medical unit so the soldiers are hospitalized to the city hospital. Four soldiers receive the treatment at Khmelnytsky District Hospital.
