Members of the Ukrainian parliament are selling land, changing ministers like gloves, resolving corporate issues, but turning a blind eye to those important bills that would take minutes to vote. These essential bills cause no squabbles around them in a civilized country.
Today, an alpinist and the first Ukrainian woman who conquered Mount Everest, Iryna Halay reminds of the need to pass bill No. 2232 banning training hunting centers in Ukraine and urged MPs to stop cruelty against animals. She posted the urge on her Facebook page.
This animal protection initiative was registered in the Rada in April 2018 as a draft law on the ban on hunting training centers No. 8256. However, the Association of Hunting and Fishing Farms ensured that the MPs sent the document for revision. What a cynicism - more than 400 MPs dance to the tune of the hunting lobby.
But the zoo defenders did not plan to give up after the first failure. The initiative, taking into account mistakes and completing the blanks, continued its struggle under a new name - the draft law "On Amending Certain Legislative Acts of Ukraine Relating to the Training of Dogs of Hunting Breeds for Hunting, as well as the Regulation of the Number of Some Species of Wild Animals" (Bill No. 2232).
On December 20, 2019, bill No. 2232 was already on the agenda for a vote, but the miracle never happened. The chairman of the Ecological Committee did not support him at the conciliation council, as a result of which the bill was withdrawn from the vote, and even the petition, which gained more than 73,000 votes, did not become an argument for the MPs.
Why? Because hunters speak out against, there are a lot of hunters in of the Verkhovna Rada. And the goal of the animal protection initiative is to ban the training of dogs for hunting using wild animals as a live simulator in Ukraine, along with other European countries. Indeed, in the process of such hunting trainings on wild animals causes serious injuries, traumas, animals often die. In order for the predator not to injure the dog during training, the animals are mutilated, their claws and teeth are pulled out, they are starved or exposed to powerful drugs. Absolute mockery, which is prohibited in civilized countries.
Animal rights activists have repeatedly noticed that the training of dogs has not been regulated by the state in any way: there are no laws that set limits for those who want to train their dogs in hunting live animals. Therefore, the utmost of human cruelty is happening at the hunting training centers.
There is already a huge public request for a solution to this problem: people sign petitions that gather 50,000 or more votes, hold large rallies to support the bill. In reality, society is asking Ukraine's Parliament to stop violence against animals, but MPs seem to not hear people.
We hope that more and more famous people are raising this issue, and then it will be embarrassing for the elected representatives to pretend that nothing is happening, and that with such support, animal protection initiatives will really be heard.
