First traffic calming system implemented in Poltava region

The first in Ukraine traffic calming system was presented in Lokhvytsia, Poltava region on July 19. The press service of the State Agency of Automobile Roads of Ukraine reported this.

The solar batteries are installed at the object and this territory is lighted at night and the signs are seen from a distance of a few hundreds of meters. The road signs and other elements have the anti-vandal cover. The light-reflecting elements ‘cat-eye’ are built to the road marking for better orient of the drivers in the darkness.

According to the Chief of the Service of Automobile Roads of Poltava Region Volodymyr Troyanovsky, more than 6 000 of transit and 3 000 of local cars drive through the city. The new system of the artificial limitation of speed will make the drivers to brake at the entrance to the city and keep the speed of not faster than 60 kilometers per hour.

‘It is important that the traffic calming system began to be implemented at the region’s centers. It includes the whole complex of the events that aim to save the peoples’ lives’, the Chief of the State Agency of Automobile Roads of Ukraine Slavomyr Novak noted.

During three years the State Agency of Automobile Roads plans to renew the technic standards of the engineering and building of the roads, automatize the speed control of the vehicles, to equip 1000 surface level pedestrian crossings with traffic islands, lighting, road signs with marking, to build the byroads near the settlements.
