In Greece, the first case of infection with South African mutation of coronavirus is observed, as Deutsche Welle reported.

A 36-year-old churchman from the Thessaloniki suburb was diagnosed with the new strain of Covid-19.

It is considered that the South African variant of the coronavirus is more contagious than the usual SARS-CoV-2 variant.

On January 31, 173 cases of infection with the new ‘British’ strain were observed. First cases of such infection were reported at the beginning of January.

France banned travel to and from non-EU countries as part of new measures to avoid a third lockdown. Since Sunday all but essential travel from outside of the EU will be banned. Testing requirements from inside the EU will also be tightened.
