The death of an American was confirmed at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing.
In addition, Kyodo, citing the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reports the death of a Japanese citizen in Wuhan from severe pneumonia.
According to a media source in the Japanese government, a 60-year-old man was hospitalized on January 22 with severe pneumonia. Wuhan hospital staff diagnosed the patient, but were unable to pinpoint whether the disease was caused by a new coronavirus.
As we reported before, Healthcare Ministry of Japan stated that number of people diagnosed with coronavirus at Diamond Princess cruise ship increased thrice.
The ministry noted that 41 people at the vessel, which is under quarantine in Yokohama, Japan, were positively tested for the new type of coronavirus.
Besides, there are 21 citizens of Japan, eight citizens of the U.S., five Australians, five Canadians and one citizen of Argentina and the U.K. among the infected.
