First diphtheria case in Ukraine in 2018 reported

This year’s first case of diphtheria is observed in Luhansk region – and entire Ukraine. A correspondent of 112 Ukraine TV channel reported that on Tuesday evening.

‘A local lab confirmed the case of diphtheria in Rubizhne. A 31-year-old man who had the symptoms turned for medical aid last Tuesday. He currently stays at the infectious disease ward. According to doctors, he has the so-called localized and non-toxic form of diphtheria,’ the reporter said.

Olga Martynenko, the regions’ chief expert in infectious diseases, the infected man was timely inoculated against diphtheria as a child.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Civil Healthcare Centre reported that the first case diphtheria in 2018 is observed unofficially. According to the entity, not a single case of this disease was confirmed across the country. The Healthcare Ministry added that currently, there are enough anti-diphtheria vaccines in Ukraine – over six million doses.
