October 19, the first case of infection with strain AY4.2 was detected in Israel, reports.

A new strain was found in a child who returned from Moldova. The virus was discovered during a test conducted at Ben Gurion Airport that is done by anyone who arrives in Israel.

During the analysis for genome sequencing, it was found that the boy is a carrier of a Delta strain variant.

AY4.2 is a subvariant of the Delta strain. So far there is no data on how the properties of the virus of the new line differ in terms of the clinical course of the disease from the original Delta strain.

As it was reported earlier, British doctors observed a growing incidence of the new kind of coronavirus, the AY.4.2 variant. It is also known as Delta Plus mutation.

According to the story, "the latest official data suggests 6% of Covid cases that have been genetically sequenced are of a new type." However, this particular mutation dominates among those who got sick with coronavirus.

The Delta coronavirus strain has been first recorded in Ukraine in June. Two cases were found in a 66-year-old mother and a 16-year-old child who had recently returned from the Russian Federation.
