A fire broke out in the Chornobyl exclusion zone, Kyiv region, on Thursday afternoon. The remains of wood caught fire as workers chopped wood for railway construction; the fire soon spread on about 20 hectares of the forest, Ukraine’s State Emergency Service said.

About a hundred firemen, a helicopter and cargo planes are involved in putting out the fire. The helicopter threw 50 cubic meters of water to kill the flames.

As of Friday morning, the situation is under control; the fire is not going to reach the premises of Chornobyl nuclear power station, State Emergency Service says.
