A fire occurred at the Hashem Foods juice plant in Rupganj, Bangladesh. The tragedy took the lives of at least 52 people. As the total number of workers reached 7,000 to 8,000, the actual number of victims may grow yet, reports UNB.
According to Abdullah Al Arefin, deputy assistant director of the Fire Service and Civil Defense of Narayanganj district, 49 bodies were recovered during the search and rescue operation. Another three fatalities were confirmed by Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.
The outlet reports that the fire broke out at 5 p.m. Thursday. In spite of the fact that the firefighters took the flame under control by Friday afternoon, they are still searching for the people under the debris. The works continue; the government does not explain the reasons for the fire.
