The father of the Italian journalist Andrea Rocchelli, who was murdered near Slovyansk in Donbas region in 2014, said that the Ukrainian military man Vitaly Markiv, detained the day before, "knows a lot" about the death of his son. This Rino Rocchelli said in a commentary to Russian Novaya Gazeta.
"All that I know, I know from the Italian police. In Italy, the investigation is conducted in contact with me. Now I can definitely confirm that this man, Vitaly Markiv, knows a lot, the investigation is working with him. Markiv has many relatives in Italy. It is known that he served as a volunteer in the Ukrainian army, we all understand that he was not the only one involved in the shelling. I do not have any contact with Ukraine on this issue, I do not have an official status in connection with what happened. All that I can say - this investigation was conducted by Italy. And I'm inclined to trust this investigation more like an independent than if it had been conducted by one of the sides of a military conflict, " he said.
We recall, in Italy on June 30, was detained Vitali Markiv, who serves in the operational battalion on the post of deputy platoon commander. He is suspected of involvement in the death of photo reporter Andrea Rocchelli and Russian journalist Andrei Mironov. Then the French reporter William Rogelon was also wounded. In the area of the village Avdiivka group of foreign journalists fell under mortar fire. The Ukrainian prosecutor's office was told that they had already asked the Italian authorities to provide solid evidence of Markiv's guilt or his immediate release.
National Guard said that Markiv can not be involved in the death of Rocchelli, since his battalion did not have mortars.
