Farewell with Borys Paton, the President of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine is slated for Saturday. The prominent scientist will be buried at Baikove cemetery on the same day. Press office of the National Academy of Sciences reports this.
The farewell ceremony will begin at 10.15 a.m., with the Club of Cabinet of Ministers hosting the event. The burial will take place at about 1 p.m.
The outstanding Ukrainian specialist in metallurgy and technologies of metal works, the President of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine passed away on August 19 - at the age of 101. He led this office since 1962.
Paton was born on 27 November 1918 in Kyiv, in the family of scientist and founder of the Paton Institute of Electric Welding in Kyiv, professor Yevhen Paton.
During the Second World War, more precisely in 1941 and 1942, Paton worked and designed electric circuits at the Krasnoye Sormovo Factory No. 112 in Gorky, Russia. His designs helped to increase Soviet tank production and thus, speed up the victory in the war.
In the early 1970s and 1980s, Paton had advised the Soviet authorities not to build the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant.
The scientist was the first person to have been awarded the title of the Hero of Ukraine (1998).
