The officers' club of the military garrison in Ozerne town (northern Ukraine) held a solemn farewell ceremony. Relatives, friends and colleagues of the deceased Major Oleksandr Fomenko came to say goodbye to the experienced Air Force pilot.
The 'Centre' Air Force Command posted that on Facebook on Tuesday.
'The Air Force Command representatives, the 'Centre' Air Force Command, the staff of the aviation brigade and Ozerne garrison, the citizens, relatives and friends came to bid farewell to the defender of Ukraine, to thank him for the loyal service to the Ukrainian nation and express their grief and condolences to the family at the mourning meeting', the message says.
Major Fomenko was the First Class Pilot and the Chief of Fire and Tactical Training of the Tactical Aviation Brigade, which belongs to the 'Centre' Air Force Command. He participated in combat actions in Donbas in 2014.
Fomenko deceased during the training flight near Ozerne airfield in Zhytomyr region, northern Ukraine. The tragedy took place on December 15. The pilot was driving Sukhoi Su-27 fighter, which, for some reason, crashed during the landing.
