The fire at the armory of the Ministry of Defense in Ichnia in Chernihiv region occurred as a result of a diversion. Hryhoriy Riabenko, Military Prosecutor of the central region of Ukraine, claimed this, as Hromadske reported.
‘Someone broke into the depot and planted the explosive. A number of expert evaluations are being undertaken, which to establish who and how has established the explosive,’ Riabenko claimed.
Reportedly, an explosion in the sixth armory occurred in Ichnia. The air-space within 30 km was shut down, traffic and railway movement was stopped due to the emergency situation. The Military Prosecutor’s Office of the Central Region opened a criminal proceeding on the case of explosions at the ammunition depot in Ichnia.
Since October 10, ten demining groups have been working on the territory of the armory. On October 11, the fire was completely eliminated.
Over the past four years, it's been the fifth accident with the ammunition stocks in Ukraine exploding; the incidents took place in Balakliya (Kharkiv region), Svatove (Luhansk region), and Kalynivka (Vinnytsia region).
