A strong explosion thundered in a bakery located on rue de Trevise in the center of Paris, around 9 a.m. local time. As a result of the blast windows in neighboring houses were broken, it is also known that there are injured people, but their number is still being specified. This is reported by Le Parisien.
Le Figaro reports that 12 people received serious injuries after an explosion in a Paris bakery, five of them are in critical condition. Another 24 people received minor injuries. In total 36 people are injured.
According to the preliminary data, the explosion occurred due to a gas leak. A fire started in the building after the explosion occurred.
Now firefighters work at the site. The townspeople are asked to bypass this area until the consequences of the explosion have been eliminated.
The newspaper notes that this bakery on Saturday morning was supposed to be closed.
Rémy Heitz, the Paris prosecutor, said that the blast had been “manifestly accidental,” telling reporters at the site: “First there was a gas leak, then the arrival of the firefighters, followed by an explosion that caused the fire.”
But Mr. Heitz said investigators were just beginning to ascertain what had caused the leak and that all hypotheses were still being considered.
