Weather forecasters urge residents of Rivne to carry their umbrellas when walking in the rain. Ukraine's Hydrometeorological Centre reported that on Facebook, following the situation after the emergency at local nitrogen plant.
"Get your umbrellas when about to take a walk under the rain. An emergency occurred at Rivneazot plant on Tuesday, July 20. The pipe in the factory shop floor gave a leak. A huge cloud of nitrogen oxide rose in the air", reads the message.
As of 6 a.m. July 21, there was no immediate threat to environment in the area of emergency. However, the concentration of nitrogen dioxide is close to the maximum allowable level, and the nitrogen oxide concentration levels pratcically match the the maximum allowable level.
The forecasters add that the cloud of nitrogen oxide still ended up in the atmosphere, dissolved and settled not far from the site of emergency, thanks to the favorable weather conditions in Rivne region on July 20. However, a certain amount of the substance got dissolved in the water. This is why acid rains are observed in certain districts of Rivne region, and people are highly advised to carry their umbrellas.
