The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) detained a former employee of Lviv National Police, who, according to the investigation, organized the arson of the car of Radio Liberty journalist in January 2020, as the SBU reported.
The operatives of the special service established the location of a perpetrator. He was detained and served suspicion in complicity in a crime and deliberate destruction or damage of a property of a journalist.
Investigative actions continue.
As we reported, on January 30, 2020, an unknown man set the car of Radio Liberty journalist Halyna Tereshchuk on fire. On February 6, 2020, a 19-year-old perpetrator was detained in Odesa.
In Ukraine, during the first six months of 2020, 40 cases of physical aggression against journalists were observed. Only in June, the National Union of the Journalists of Ukraine spotted ten incidents with the use of physical aggression against the workers of mass media. Three of them are tied with non-observance of the lockdown. The majority of the incidents took place in Kyiv.
