In 2018, 158,000 tourists from Ukraine came to Israel. 7730 of them did not pass the passport control on the border and were sent back home, as Amon Shmuel, the Head of Department of Registration and Immigration at the airport named after Ben-Gurion, said, NEWSru.co.il reports.
Therefore, every 20th Ukrainian could not step on the sacred land. 49 owners of Ukrainian passports (4,9%) out of each thousand were deported right away.
Visa-free regime is imposed between Ukraine and Israel since 2016. Though, many Ukrainian tourists who want to visit this country complain about unreasonable refusal to enter Israel.
Israeli authorities explain this in the following way: more and more citizens of the states of the former Soviet Union, with which Israel has visa-free regime (Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and Georgia), are trying to illegally migrate to their country. This problem became urgent since Russian aggression began in Ukraine in 2014.
