The events dedicated to the Day of Remembrance for the victims of the famine will take place in Kyiv on November 25-26 as the press service of the Kyiv City State Administration reported.

The events will occur at Maidan Nezalezhnosti and Khreshchatyk Street.

The Day of Remembrance for the victims of the famine is the yearly national memorable day in Ukraine that occurs the fourth Saturday of November. It was established by a decree of Leonid Kuchma, the former president of Ukraine on November 26, 1998, as ‘Day of Remembrance of Holodomor Victims’.

The national minute of silence is announced this day at 16:00 and then the event ‘Light a candle’ takes place when all people can carry the candles to the victims’ memorial. Also, people can light the candles at home and place them to the window to support the event.

Only the genocide of the Ukrainians in 1932-1933 is recognized as the Holodomor in Ukraine at the juridical and legislation levels. The events of 1921-1923 and 1946-1947 are classified as the mass famine and theirs genocide nature is not proved yet.
