The European Union calls for the release of Ukrainian journalist Stanislav Aseev, who was sentenced to 15 years in prison in the so-called Donetsk People’s Republic. The EU Delegation to Ukraine reported this on Twitter.
"The EU calls for the immediate release of Ukrainian journalist Stanislav Aseev. The silencing of independent journalists and freedom of expression is unacceptable," the statement said.
The EU also continues to call for the release of all illegally-detained prisoners in the non-government controlled areas of Ukraine.
As we reported earlier, Ukrainian journalist Stanislav Aseev was sentenced to 15 years in prison in the so-called Donetsk People’s Republic. It was reported by "DAN" with reference to Prosecutor’s Office of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic.
Aseev was found guilty of a number of crimes under the articles "organization of extremist community", "espionage", "incitement to espionage", "public calls for carrying out extremist activities" and "public calls for actions aimed at violating the territorial integrity".
The U.S. Embassy in Kyiv demanded Russia to set Stanislav Aseev free.
