With the recent increase in the number of new infections with Covid-19, Ukraine overstepped the boundaries set by the European Commission for the states to be admitted to the Schengen Area. The official statistics of the Health Ministry surpasses the European criteria as Yevropeiska Pravda reported.
The main criterion of the assessment of the opening of the EU border for the citizens of this or that country is the number of new infections in the country for the last 14 days toward its population. According to mass media, the debates are held whether to admit to the EU the citizens of countries where less than new 16 infections per 100,000 people or less than 20 new infections are registered (16 is the average rate in the EU countries; the rate in 20 people will allow admitting more foreigners).
The new rules should start working from July 1; until that time, the blank prohibition for minor travels for the foreigners, including the Ukrainians, is still working.
Meanwhile, Ukraine cannot count on any of these options. As of June 24, during the past 14 days, 10,723 new diseased people are registered. Ukraine’s population makes 41.8 million people and it means that the incidence rate in Ukraine in 14 days makes 26.65 cases per 100,000 people and it surpasses both criteria set by the EU.
In case the draft recommendation of the European Commission is approved by the countries-members, it will mean the extension of the ban for entrance for minor travels for the citizens of Ukraine.
On June 24, Ukraine has set a new anti-record in terms of the number of people infected with Covid-19. Over the past 24 hours, 940 people got sick. Thus, the total number currently makes 39,014 people.
