Prime Minister of Ethiopia Abiy Ahmed Ali has vowed to go to the front to lead the war against the rebels, The Guardian reports.

"Starting tomorrow, I will mobilise to the front to lead the defence forces," Abiy Ahmed announced.

He also urged other residents to join him at the front.

"Those who want to be among the Ethiopian children who will be hailed by history, rise up for your country today. Let’s meet at the front," the prime minister stated.

Note that in the Tigray region, the Ethiopian army has been fighting fierce battles with TPLF forces for a year, which the authorities call a terrorist organizations. It is reported that in recent days the army has suffered a number of defeats in battles with the rebels. Recently, TPLF announced the capture of the city of Kemiza, 300 kilometers from the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa. Earlier, the rebels reported gaining control of the cities of Kombolcha and Desse, which are strategically important for communication with the capital.

In this regard, the Ethiopian parliament approved the immediate imposition of a state of emergency across the country.
