Energoatom company decided to finally refuse from transportation of wasted nuclear fuel from Ukraine's nuclear power plants to Russia - for recycling and temporary storage. The company's press office reported that on Febuary 16.
"Ukraine's need in these service is finally gone. It significantly boosts the energy security of our country", said Petro Kotin, the company's CEO.
According to him, in July 2021, the Centralized Storage of Wasted Nuclear Fuel will be able to host the first batch of this fuel. Energoatom's chairman reiterated that infrastructure building works in this Centre were over in December 2020.
The first launch complex of the Centre is supposed to start working in Q2 2021, when the railroad section leading to the facility will be finished. The 43-kilometer line will link the storage with the railroad network of Ukraine.
