EC checks availability of Ukrainian gas system for heating season

The representatives of the Joint Research Center (JRC) of the Directorate-General of the European Commission successfully exercised the readiness of the Ukrainian gas transportation system for a new heating season. The press service of Naftogaz Ukraine reported this.

‘The representatives of the Joint Research Center of the Directorate-General of the European Commission, Naftogaz Ukraine, Ukrtransgaz and the Ministry of Energy and Coal Mining exercised the scenarios of the possible critical situations with the supply of the natural gas to Ukraine within the cooperation between the European Commission and Ukraine’, the message said.

The research work took place according to the methodology and standards of the European Union that are recognized in the Ukrainian decree on Natural Gas Market.

It provides the determining of the risks for the Ukrainian gas transportation system in 2017-2018 heating season and analysis of the scenarios of the crisis situations, possibility and consequences of them. Also, the hydraulic model was renewed and it allows holding the simulations of the situations in the gas transportation system taking into account the real operating conditions of the system.

‘The results of the research work are the basis for the work out of the complex of the preventive measures that essentially increase the maturity level of the gas transportation system for emergency’, the company noted.

Also, the representatives of the JRC gave the references on the development of the laws and regulations of Ukraine, particularly, the National Plan of Actions and Rules of Safety of Nature Gas Supply.

The beneficiary of the research work is the Ministry of Energy and Coal Mining as the central executive body that is responsible for monitoring of the security of the natural gas supply. The research took place on the European Commission money within the engineering assurance by European Commission. The project is implemented for the second year and it is meant for three years.

The Joint Research Center of the Directorate-General of the European Commission is the body of the European Commission that is responsible for the methodological support of the preparation to the critical situations in the gas sphere in all EU countries-members.
