All Ukrainian Orthodox Churches, Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, the majority of Ukrainian Evangelical Christians, as well as Jerusalem, Russian, Serbian, Georgian Orthodox Churches celebrate Christmas during the night from 6 to 7 January. This day is an official public holiday in Ukraine.
According to the biblical narrative, on this day in Bethlehem Mary gave birth to Jesus Christ in a stable. Shepherds were the first who congratulated the newborn. Later the Wise Men from the East came to the infant.
Orthodox Christmas is celebrated magnificently in the Christian world. On this day a forty-day Christmas Advent comes to an end and 12-day Christmas holidays begin. They are accompanied by folk festivals in honor of the birth of the Son of God. The Slavs have long had nativity scene, sang carols and wished all good for the whole year.
