A senior prom in the Ukrainian capital turned into a tragedy, as a knifeman stabbed Serhiy Oliynyk, the seasoned fighter of Donbas conflict and head of the All-Ukraine Union of Veterans and Volunteers. Oliynyk, who survived the horrors of war in Mariinka, Donetsk region led the reconnaissance squads in the 1st Battalion of the 54th Detached Mechanized Brigade of Ukraine’s Armed Forces.
The Ukrainian media have widely reported on the murder that took place near Zoloti Vorota museum in Kyiv in the afternoon on June 22. According to a number of witnesses and later media reports, the conflict sparked between two men; one of the senior school students, Oliynyk’s son, played a keyboard, which annoyed a passerby. He demanded that the boy stop playing. The boy’s father stood up for him; the verbal conflict began and at first it seemed to have ended, but the aggressive passerby returned and stabbed Oliynyk twice. The wounded died on the spot.
The local police report that the attacker was drunk; he fled the crime scene and tried to hide in an apartment building, but the law enforcers detained him on a rooftop.
