For the first time in Ukraine’s history, a pancreas transplant was successfully performed at the Lviv Ambulance Hospital. This was stated by Health Minister Maksym Stepanov during a briefing that was broadcasted by 112 Ukraine TV channel.
"Lviv Ambulance Hospital is currently becoming the flagship of transplantation. There is very good news: tonight first-ever pancreas transplant was performed in our country. Overall, three operations were conducted: heart transplant, kidney transplant, and pancreas transplant," he said.
Stepanov noted that the issue of transplantation was one of the priorities for the Ministry of Health.

"We want to achieve transplant independence in 2.5-3 years so that our citizens do not have to go abroad because we send them and transfer money every day. This year, for example, 36,1 million dollars are allocated for the treatment of people abroad," he said.
As we reported earlier, Surgeons of Kyiv-based Institute named after Oleksandr Shalimov successfully conducted three operations, transplanting body organs from a dead donor.
"We had a kidney transplanted for a 34-year-old man who suffered from kidney failure. In the neighboring surgery room, there's a 31-year-old woman who also suffers from kidney failure, and she also has a kidney transplanted," said the statement.
