The analysis of surface waters of Dnipro river basin showed that the water body is badly polluted; 161 pollutants are detected in these waters, including atrazine, cadmium, nickel and agricultural chemicals that could lead to the environmental disaster. The press office of Audition Chamber of Ukraine reported that on June 29.
According to the authority, the audit of river basin revealed considerable excess of agricultural chemicals, drugs and heavy metals - zinc, copper and mecrury. The water blooming is the reason for the massive wholesale deaths of the fish in Dnipro.
"The situation also gets more complicated due to the shallowing of the river, which is taking place because there are no engineer dredge works; these were performed during the use of the river as a transport route. Thus, the environmental condition of Dnipro's basin is, in fact, catastrophic", reads the message. "If the environmental situation in the river basin does not improve, the water will get even dirtier. It will be necessary to clean it up, which will result in huge load on the state budget. The expenditures may twice exceed those foreseen by the [government] Program in this regard".
