Ministry of Health expands list of hospitals that can provide organ transplantation services

The Ministry of Health of Ukraine has created a separate unit for the development of organ transplantation in Ukraine. The development of organ transplantation can become part of medical reform. Minister of Health Maksym Stepanov stated this at a meeting with the participation of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky.

Stepanov added that currenty, more than 5,000 Ukrainians expect organ transplantation.

“We need to take up the development of transplantation very strongly in our country. Firstly, in Ukraine such operations are five to six times cheaper than abroad, and therefore, more affordable for Ukrainians. This increases the chance to save lives. Secondly, such a high-quality a lower price service can attract foreigners," Zelensky said.

The Minister noted that the Ministry of Health is expanding the list of hospitals that can provide organ transplantation services.

As we reported before, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved tariffs for organ transplant operations.

According to the document, the cost of a kidney allograft (from a living donor or a corpse donor) will cost $14 thousand, an ABO-incompatible kidney transplant - $30,500.
