Detention of spies in Turkey

Six people have been detained in Turkey on charges of "political and military espionage". Citizens of Russia, Uzbekistan and one Ukrainian are among those involved, Hurriyet reports.

It is noted that on October 8, a coordinated operation was conducted in Istanbul as part of an investigation conducted by the city's chief prosecutor's office in a case of "political or military espionage". According to the information, the suspects were preparing an armed action against the Chechen opposition in Turkey and planned to seize weapons for this purpose.

The newspaper reports that the detained suspects were taken to the Maltepe penitentiary. It is also noted that there is an assessment that the suspects may be involved in international espionage activities.

The suspects were transferred to the Istanbul Prosecutor General's Office as a result of an investigation conducted by police teams. The crimes of "political and military espionage" in Turkey are regulated by Article 328 of the Criminal Procedure Code and provide for imprisonment for a term of 15 to 20 years.

As it was reported earlier, the border guards of the Bilhorod-Dniester border detachment at Palanka checkpoint in Odesa region confiscated spy equipment from a passenger of a bus, a Japanese citizen. He was trying to take it to Moldova.
