Delta Covid-19 strain accounts for 47% of all coronavirus cases in Poland, despite less than 10% in mid-June. This was reported by Poliskie Radio with reference to the deputy head of the Polish Ministry of Health Waldemar Kraska.
"The latest data show 185 cases of the Delta variant in Poland ... Currently, this is 47% of all new cases that we detect, that is, the number of infections is really growing," Kraska said, recalling that in mid-June this figure was 8%.
According to the deputy head of the Ministry of Health, now, during the holidays, the Delta strain will spread faster. He also suggested that in a few weeks, the number of people infected with coronavirus in Poland will increase significantly.
Meanwhile, the situation with the Covid-19 pandemic is becoming more difficult and the world is increasingly moving away from its end. It was stated by Dr. Maria Van Kerkhove, Technical Lead for Covid-19.
"We are in a very dangerous situation. The situation is becoming more and more difficult, and we are more and more moving away from the end of this pandemic than we should at this point," Kerkhove said.
Kerkhove noted that over the past week, the number of new Covid-19 cases in the world has increased by 11.5%, and the number of deaths has increased by 1%. Thus, the number of new cases of Covid-19 in Europe last week increased by 21%, and in the Western Pacific - by 30%.
