The Delta coronavirus strain can spread faster in Ukraine than in its western neighbors and have more serious consequences due to the low level of vaccination of the population and large migration from the Russian Federation. The press service of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (NAS) reported this.

According to updated data, the amount of the Delta strain in Russia is already about 72%, although the data sample is significantly concentrated in St. Petersburg. In addition, Russian news agencies know that the number of hospitalizations has been growing 40% per week in the Moscow region for three weeks, and less than 11% of the bed stock remains vacant, the NAS said.

It is noted that the weekly growth rate of the number of hospitalizations in Ukraine during the March-April wave never exceeded 30%, and the excess of 40% was observed in Kyiv only during one week at the initial stage of growth.
