The Delta strain is significantly more infectious than all other known versions. Moreover, it is more likely to overcome vaccine and can cause more serious illness, as U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention stated, The New York Times and The Washington Post reported.
"Vaccinated people with so-called breakthrough Delta infections are reported to carry the same amount of the virus in their nose and throat as vaccinated people and can spread it just as easily, however less frequently," the message says.
In addition, the Delta variant is transmitted more intensely than the viruses that cause MERS, SARS, Ebola, the common cold, seasonal flu, and is as contagious as chickenpox.
People with weak immune systems are advised to wear masks even in places where there is no high transmission of the virus. The same should be applied for vaccinated people who come into contact with young children, the elderly, or other vulnerable people.
As it was reported earlier, the number of infections with the Delta strain is growing in Ukraine, as 17 cases have already been registered.
