"Today Ukraine celebrates Medical Worker's Day. Officially, this day does not have such a status, but, in my opinion, this is really a public holiday. And for every citizen today is like the birthday of a very close person, a Ukrainian doctor who is always ready to help, protect and save your life. I congratulate all medical workers of Ukraine on their professional holiday," Zelensky said.

He added that he had signed a decree awarding 122 medics with state awards.

"As promised, I will not allow the closure of hospitals. I will not allow doctors to lose their jobs and seek a better life abroad. I was, I am and will be, in a good sense of the word, a lobbyist for the interests of every Ukrainian doctor. And I will do everything so that you received protection, respect and decent pay for the work," Zelensky said.

According to the president, from September 1, all medical workers' salaries will be increased by 25, 50 and 70%, depending on their categories.

Zelensky noted that as of June 21, 43 medical workers died from coronavirus in Ukraine. According to the president, in the near future relatives of the deceased should receive appropriate compensation.

Today Ukraine celebrates the Day of the medical worker. This professional holiday was established by presidential decree of June 3, 1994 and is celebrated annually, on the third Sunday of June.
