Ukraine's Culture Minister Oleksandr Tkachenko offered to introduce the two-week lockdown during the period of New Year and Christmas holidays. Tkachenko posted this on his Telegram channel.

"By the plan that the Healthcare Ministry voiced out, we're expecting the last weekend of quarantine. This is highly anticipated by everyone who cannot work in the conditions of coronavirus restrictions and bans; it's the creative economy, tourism, small and medium businesses, etc.", Tkachenko reported.

He added that in recent days, the number of the infected has dropped, but the further development of events must be projected".

"My personal opinion: a projected lockdown is better than long-lasting uncertainty. So I offer, first, to plan a two-week lockdown tied to the New Year holiday. Sure, the government should assist all those who suffer in conditions of unemployment. And, secondly, [I offer] to drop the idea of holding mass events on New Year and Christmas, celebrating online - via Zoom, for example. At least, people will have something to remember," the Minister concluded.
