CovidUkraine: 7,967 new cases over last 24hrs

Over the last 24 hours, Ukrainian doctors confirmed 7,967 new cases of Covid-19, including 822 children and 88 healthcare workers. Coronavirus_Info Telegram channel reports it.

3,300 people have been taken to hospitals during this period; 126 patients deceased and 1,483 recovered. 91,103 tests have been taken.

Most of the confirmed cases have been observed in Kharkiv (1073), Dnipropetrovsk (855), Odesa (571), Lviv (536) and Chernivtsi (462) regions.

Since the beginning of the pandemic in Ukraine, 2,455,189 people have contracted the disease, 2,263,407 have overcome it, 56,775 have succumbed to it.

Meanwhile, US pharmaceutical companies Merck and Ridgeback Biotherapeutics have developed a drug that reduces the risk of hospitalization or death by around 50% for patients with mild or moderate cases of Covid-19.

The companies plan to seek emergency authorization for the antiviral Covid treatment after the medicine showed “compelling results” in clinical trials.

The drug, molnupiravir, is administered orally and works by inhibiting the replication of the coronavirus inside the body.
