“The Biden administration is preparing stricter testing requirements for all travelers entering the United States, including returning Americans, to curb the spread of the potentially dangerous omicron variant,” The Washington Post reports with reference to a source.

According to the publication, all those wishing to enter the United States will have to be tested the day before departure, regardless of whether they are vaccinated or not, and from which country they depart. Before the new rules come into force, testing must take place three days before boarding the flight.

In addition, options for retesting within three to five days of arrival and weekly quarantine are considered, even with negative tests. Violators may be subject to fines.

These measures are included in a draft order prepared by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which is being considered by officials of the Ministry of Health and the White House. Observers do not rule out that these measures may be announced by President Joe Biden on December 2, when he plans to present a strategy to combat infection in the winter.

Speaking in Michigan, the president said that the strategy would be based on vaccination and revaccination, not measures to restrict economic activity. He noted that the Omicron strain is a factor of anxiety, but not panic.

However, the United States has cut off air service to eight African countries where Omicron is already being distributed.

As it was reported, in California, USA, the first case of infection with a new strain of coronavirus "Omicron" was detected.
