In Lebanon, a record-breaking daily growth of people infected with coronavirus observed – 309 new cases. The outbreak took place after the explosion in the port and mass protests, as The Guardian reported.
The Health Ministry of Lebanon reports that 7,121 cases of coronavirus infection registered in the country since the beginning of the pandemic. Besides, 87 lethal cases were observed.
Meanwhile, it is noted that the last time, the outbreak was observed before the tragedy in Beirut port.
Earlier, WHO Representative Tarik Jasarevic stated that after the explosion in Lebanon, there is a risk that Covid-19 spread would accelerate.
On August 4, the video of explosions in Beirut, the capital and the largest city of Lebanon, appeared on social media. The media reported that the number of deceased is at least 159 people, about 6,000 people wounded. The surroundings of the incident city turned into ruins.
Later, the mass protests started in the city. On August 9, Lebanese Prime Minister Hassan Diab, under protesters' pressure, agreed to hold early elections in the country.
