Court arrests Hummer driver who ran over eight-year-old girl in Kyiv

Kyrylo Ostrovsky will remain in detention for two months; he pleaded partially guilty

The court arrested 23-year-old Kyrylo Ostrovsky, the entrepreneur and the careless driver, who recently mowed down a girl in the downtown Kyiv. The Kyiv prosecutor's office reported that on Thursday.

The jury granted the motion by the prosecution, which means that Ostrovsky will remain behind the bars for 60 days.

The investigation goes on.

Earlier on July 26, Ostrovsky partially pleaded guilty. He claimed this during the session of Shevchenkivsky court in Kyiv. 

During the court session, the prosecutor's office insisted on the choosing of the restrictive measure for Ostrovsky in the form of the detention. A prosecutor said that there is a risk of the influence on the participants of the case by threats or bribery and the risk of the covering up of Ostrovsky.

The suspect claimed that he did not attempt to flee site and regrets the accident. He added that now his family is helping the family of the deceased girl. Ostrovsky also said that two kids accidentally ran out in the road that evening: the first one successfully crossed the road and he ran over the second.

As we reported Hummer vehicle ran over a girl, which resulted in her death in the ambulance car on the evening of July 24. He flew the scene after the run over but was detained.

The driver of the car is already served charges due to the violation of the traffic rules or exploitation of the transport by persons who drive it. Now, the suspect is at the detention facility.
