A coup took place in Mali. The military in Mali arrested President Bah Ndaw, Prime Minister Moctar Ouane and Defence Minister Souleymane Doucoure. Reuters stated citing diplomatic and governmental sources.
The arrests came just an hour or so after a new government Cabinet was announced. Notably, it did not include Interior Security Minister Modibo Kone or Defense Minister Sadio Camara.
“The detention of President Bah Ndaw and Prime Minister Moctar Ouane on Monday came hours after a government reshuffle left out two soldiers who led the coup in August last year and raised fears of a second military takeover,” Al Jazeera stated.
It is also noted that President Bah Ndaw, Prime Minister Moctar Ouane and Defence Minister Souleymane Doucoure were all taken to a military base in Kati.
