Due to the appearance of a new strain of coronavirus in some European countries, the World Health Organization has called on Europeans to strengthen approaches to control and prevent the spread of the virus. This is reported by Deutsche Welle.
“Across Europe, where transmission is intense and widespread, countries need to redouble their approaches to controlling and preventing (infections),” the report said.
Today several European countries at once restricted communication with the UK due to a new strain of coronavirus. Another three might do this soon.
"Three European countries have already limited communications with the UK, three more may do this in the near future. The reason was a sharp increase in the incidence of coronavirus in Britain due to the new strain of Covid-19," the report said.
So, the Netherlands was the first to announce the decision not to accept passenger flights from the kingdom. Air traffic will be limited from January 1. Restrictions on other modes of transport are still under discussion.
Belgium reported that it completely closes the border with the UK for 24 hours. In the next day, the authorities will decide exactly how to limit communication with the kingdom.
It also temporarily suspends flights with the UK and Italy. The corresponding order will be signed shortly, the foreign minister announced.
Austria will follow the example of other countries, which will stop accepting flights from the UK.
At the same time, Germany is only considering the possibility of banning air travel from Britain, the Bild writes. Germany will initiate border closures from midnight December 21 to January 6. South Africa, where a mutated virus was also found, may also fall under the restrictions, the newspaper notes.
