The oil content at the site of the Delfi tanker accident near Odesa exceeded the norm by 157 times.
This was announced by the acting Head of the State Ecological Inspectorate of Ukraine Yegor Firsov on his Facebook page.
"As of now, the situation is not critical, but I recommend refusing to swim in the sea. Our experts have established that the content of petroleum products in the epicenter is 157 times above norm. Inspectors are now working on site and continue to monitor pollution within their authority and area of responsibility," he wrote.
According to Firsov, it is impossible to take more effective measures, besides installing sorbing equipment, because of the storm.
"As soon as the storm subsides, the needed equipment will be installed around the emergency tugboat to avoid the spread of stains of fuels and lubricants in the sea. Having access to the vessel, experts will be able to conduct an inspection and find more accurate pollution indicators," he said.
As reported, a tanker Delfi under the flag of Moldova ran aground in the sea near Odesa.
