Kyiv Housing and utilities comission supported a petition to recognize the stray cats part of the urban ecosystem and provide them with the necessary protection. It is reported by the press service of Kyiv City Council.

Executive Body of Kyiv City Council (Kyiv City State Administration) was mandated to develop a comprehensive implementation of the program of the petition. It should be introduced in a month. Also, specialists in observance of sanitary norms also must provide their conclusions regarding this initiative.

Let us remind, the petition to recognize stray cats a part of the urban ecosystem and allow them the freedom to live in basements, attics and other places of their permanent residence was registered at the end of December 2016 by Kyiv citizen Victoria Kyrylyuk.

According to her, this way the city can protect animals from abuse, particularly from immurement in basements, as well as prohibit unreasonable trapping and killing of cats. Animals, in turn, will help to combat city rats and mice. In early February, the petition gathered 10 thousand signatures and has been adopted by the city council for consideration.
