Chornobyl biosphere recreation zone joins WDPA list

Chornobyl radiation and environment bioshpere recreation zone has been added to the World Database on Protected Areas list. The message appeared on the recreation zone's website.

"Adding the Chornobyl recreation zone to this list is a crucial event not only for the zone itself, but for entire Ukraine, too. It is a step towards fulfilling international commitments that it undertook in the environmental protection branch", reads the message.

The administration of Chornobyl radiation and environment bioshpere recreation zone claimed that many platforms include WDPA so as to provide integrated information to various users, including enterprises and governments. From now on, the information about Chornobyl zone will be provided, too.

The WDPA is a full global database on the ground-based and maritime recreation zones. It's the join project of the UNEP (UN Environment Programme) and the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources); the latter is ruled by the UN, along with governments, NGOs and scientific institutions.
