Chief Kyiv hospital for Covid-19 cases is run out of places for patients

The places in the infectious units of Oleksandrivsky hospital, Kyiv, come to a close as Chief Doctor of the hospital Lyudmyla Antonenko reported.

“There are 88 patients in the infectious units, 76 of them have confirmed coronavirus infection, 80 patients have pneumonia; six stay in the intensive care unit; all of them are put on the oxygen support; no people put on the artificial lung ventilators. Two patients with Covid-19 died on the weekends as they had multisegmental pneumonia and chronic coexisting diseases,” she reported.

Antonenko noted that currently, they prepare extra reserve beds.

“Currently, we observe the cases of local outbreaks of Covid-19: Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, Pochayiv Lavra, dormitory in Vyshneve. Contagiousness of the virus is very high,” she said.

The doctor also specified that in the last days, people have strengthened misleading impression that the coronavirus disease is not is gaining momentum and Ukraine confidently moves to the mitigation and termination of quarantine but the threat exists and did not disappear.

“Covid-19 is invisible enemy, which may strike in full force. Low figures of infected with coronavirus disease in Kyiv and in Ukraine, in comparison with other countries, are the merit of each person who sticks to quarantine and merit of the leadership of the state and responsibility of the local authorities,” Antonenko said.

According to her, the number of infected people could be not less than in Italy, China and the U.S. She noted that Ukraine closed in time and it saved thousands of the citizens.

As we reported, 7,170 cases of infection with coronavirus spotted in Ukraine. 578 cases were registered in the past 24 hours.
