Until the end of January, organizers of the Cannes Film Festival should announce the dates of the event that can be postponed from May to July due to the coronavirus pandemic, as Variety reported.

It is specified that the event might take place between July 5 and July 25.

“We’d much prefer if the festival happens in May, obviously, but we’ve said we’ll be happy to get prepared to welcome the festival in July; the dates we’ve agreed on are between July 5-25. So, the festival could start roughly around July 5, or a few days later,” said the owner of a hotel located near the Palais des Festivals.

Cannes Film Festival Director Thierry Fremaux stated that the increase in the duration of the festival is being discussed due to the potentially large number of films in the program. It would last for a week.

In May 2020, the world-renowned Cannes Film Festival did not take place as scheduled. The reason was Covid-19 spread. In October 2020, the festival took place in a special reduced format.

As we reported, Ukrainian movie If We Had Tomorrow received the award as Best Short Film at Barcelona International Film Festival that took place on January 4-8.
