'Cannabis March' took place in Kyiv today

The "Cannabis March", or "Freedom March" took place in Kyiv on Saturday. About a hundred participants in the event stand for decriminalizing the storage of cannabis without the purpose of marketing. The UNN news agency reported that on Saturday evening.

The march began at about noon near the building of the Cabinet of Ministers. Some 30 policemen maintained the public security. 

According to the source, no conflicts and violations of public order were reported.

In addition, participants in the event required medical research of cannabis, reported.

Member of the 'Cannabis March' Taras Ratushnyi said that the purpose of the march is the implementation of the state strategy on drugs, the newspaper reports.

He insisted on the research of cannabinoids as drugs and the decriminalization of minor offenses.

'In fact, our legislation, regulatory documents lead to the fact that the number of sentences for minor offences increases statistically. You can be convicted for just a few grams of cannabis in your pocket, and there are more than 6,000 such cases across Ukraine,' he said.
