The population of Ukraine will decrease in the future; by 2050, it will make some 36 million people, while the number of those living in the cities will grow. The respective forecast was published by the UN Department for Economic and Social Issues.

According to the forecast, 78 percent of the entire population will live in the urban environment; currently, this number makes 69 percent. There will be only three 'million cities' by then.

If the forecast comes true, Ukraine's population will become the smallest since the level of 1950. Back then, it was 37.3 million people.

In 1990, the overall population of Ukraine made 51.5 million people; it has been gradually shrinking ever since.
