The number of deceased due to the residential building collapse in Istanbul increased to 21, AFP reports.

According to the report, there are at least 14 victims. The searching operation is ongoing.

“We have a great number of lessons to learn from this. We will take the necessary measures,” Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the President of the Republic of Turkey, said after arriving at the collapse spot.

According to Süleyman Soylu, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey, there were 35 persons inside the building during the collapse.  Earlier, the authorities reported that 43 people lived in that building.

In addition, the Turkish President visited victims in the hospital, and then he participated in the burial ceremony of the nine deceased people, who died during the collapse.

The reasons for the collapse are still unannounced. At the same time, the Turkish press reports that three out of eight floors of the building were built illegally.

Earlier, the collapse of the residential building in Istanbul happened on February, 6, about 7:00 PM. In the building, built in 1992, 14 apartments were registered officially, where 43 persons have been living before the collapse occurred.
