‘British’ strain of Covid-19 observed in Mexico

The first case of the new ‘British’ strain of coronavirus is observed in Mexico. The experts have identified an infected patient in the territory of Tamaulipas state as the regional health department reported on Facebook.

The issue is about a 56-year-old infected traveler who arrived in Tamaulipas on December 29.

“The result showed the presence of a new variant of SARS-CoV-2 that initially appeared in the UK in the middle of September,” the message said.

Due to this fact, Head of Health Department of Tamaulipas Gloria Gamboa urged the population to carefully follow the measures aiming for prevention of infection and mostly stay at the residence place.

Earlier, Prime Minister of the UK Boris Johnson stated that a new coronavirus strain was identified in the UK.

The World Health Organization urged Europeans to strengthen approaches to control and prevent the spread of the virus due to the appearance of a new strain of coronavirus in some European countries.

As of today, the so-called ‘British’ strain of coronavirus was found in 41 countries and territories.
