British strain of Covid-19 in Ukraine showcases critical changes, tougher clinical implications

The Institute for Molecular Biology and Genetics of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine stated that the mutated British strain of Covid-19 caused the current epidemic wave in this country. This is also the reason of cases of repeated infections. This kind of the virus showcases critical changes and is described in tougher clinical implications among patients.

According to the Institute's press office, this kind "differs from its predecessor first observed in London in December 2020, critical changes in the sections of the virus that are responsible for the speed of reproduction of the virus in the cell, and reactivity of the human immune system. Obviously, the combimation of modified strains of the "British" caused the current wave of the epidemic (...)", reads the message. 

The doctors report more serious course of the disease in patients.

Earlier, scientists claimed that they conducted sequencing of 17 samples taken from the sick people in Ivano-Frankivsk, and another two - from Kyiv. New mutations of the British strain of coronavirus were detected in all cases.

The data has been registered in the GISAID international database; created in 2008, it provides open access to genome data of variations of flu and coronavirus.
